Engine Control Module
The main computer in your car, the ECM controls all phases and operations of ignition timing and fuel flow to give you the optimum performance and economy.
Body Control Module
The BCM controls much of the driver's interface with the vehicle and drives the speedometer and tachometer displays. Normally located either under the dash or under the hood attached to the firewall.
Transmission Control Module
Controls the shifting points of an automatic transmission based on inputs from various other sensors on the vehicle.
ABS Module
The computer behind your anti-lock braking system. The anti-lock brake control module senses when a wheel is about to lock up / skid and then releases that wheel for a split second to prevent the skid.
Airbag Control Module
The computer behind the airbag system that tells the airbag whether or not to actuate. It contains a device called an accelerometer that measures (and sometimes records) sudden deceleration. The location for this unit varies with manufacturer, but is most often underneath one of the front seats or center console.
Headlight (HID or Xenon)
High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights create a much brighter and whiter light for night driving. These headlights require a seperate module or ballast to create this bright white light.
